Roughly fifty automobiles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then found multiple other smeared cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say initial examinations indicate the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; officials are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A senior official stated the incident rendered him without words and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on online, referring to the death of nine people by a gunman focusing on residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
